A Little History

On June 14, 1777, a resolution was passed by the Second Continental Congress stating, “…the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white… [and] the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
On Flag Day, we celebrate the struggles, battles and bloodshed that went into the creation of this amazing country, and all the ensuing battles since then to be sure we .“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

Wanette, Oklahoma has held a Flag Day celebration since 1906. Through time it has been the highlight of the year, and draws people from far and wide. Join us in family friendly events, watch the parade, and enjoy good food, music, and great vendors throughout the day. Then top off the day at our rodeo!

 

We have other events throughout the year, celebrating the seasons and other special times. In December 2022, we added a new event as a sponsor group for Wreaths Across America. We conducted a ceremony recognizing veterans from all branches of the U.S. Military. Then we laid wreaths at the Wanette Cemetery ceremony to honor our veterans.
